Fine Art Maternity Storytelling Photography

Maternity photography is about preserving the quiet anticipation, beauty, and transformation of motherhood before your baby arrives. As a maternity photographer in Cincinnati, Ohio, I believe these fleeting months deserve to be documented with intention and care. Through a refined and thoughtfully guided experience, each image is created to feel natural, organic, and timeless. More than simply capturing how this season looked, maternity portraits preserve how it felt — the connection, excitement, and love already growing within your family. These images become meaningful heirlooms that allow your children to one day look back and see the beginning of their story.

There's something about this season of pregnancy that feels different from anything else — the excitement of finally meeting your baby, mixed with a little bit of "is my body really going to look like this in photos?" As a Cincinnati maternity photographer, I hear that second thought from almost every client I meet, and I want you to know: it's completely normal, and it's exactly why I'm here. My job isn't just to take pictures — it's to help you feel genuinely beautiful and confident during a season your body has never experienced before and may never experience again. Whether you're glowing with energy or exhausted and swollen-ankled, you deserve to look back on this time and see yourself the way your family already sees you: radiant, strong, and so loved. This is more than a photo session — it's a celebration of everything you're about to become.

What happens if it's raining or too cold on session day?

Life happens, and weather is never something to stress over. If we're planning an outdoor session and the forecast doesn't cooperate, we'll simply reschedule for the next available date, or shift to a cozy studio session instead — whatever works best for your timeline.

Do you accommodate multiples or high-risk pregnancies?

Yes, and I'd love to know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly. Multiples often mean booking a bit earlier, and high-risk pregnancies may call for a shorter, more restful session pace. Your comfort and your care team's guidance always come first.

How far along should I be for my session?

Most clients book between 28 and 32 weeks, though this can shift depending on your pregnancy. For the full breakdown, check out my guide: When to Take Maternity Photos.

From the moment you reach out, you'll never be left wondering what happens next. It starts with a simple inquiry, followed by a phone consultation where we talk through your vision, your due date, and the best timing for your session. From there, I'll guide you through outfit selection and location choice (studio or outdoor) so everything feels planned rather than last-minute.
On session day, you'll simply show up — I'll handle posing, direction, and pacing so you can relax and enjoy the experience instead of worrying about what to do. Afterward, you'll receive a private online gallery to view and select your favorites, followed by custom design of your heirloom album or wall art. From your very first phone call to the artwork on your walls, this is a fully guided experience, start to finish.

What to Expect: Your Maternity Session Journey

Your Artwork, Not Just a Gallery

At the end of your session, you won't just receive a folder of digital files to sort through alone — you'll be guided through turning your favorite images into artwork designed to actually live in your home. From custom-designed heirloom albums you can hold and pass down, to framed wall art sized and styled for your specific space, every product is created with the same intention as your session: timeless, elevated, and made to last for generations. I'll walk you through your options during your ordering appointment, so you leave with a clear plan for how your maternity images will become part of your everyday home — not just something stored on a hard drive.

When is the best time to schedule maternity photos?

Most of my clients book their session between 28 and 32 weeks — far enough along to show a beautifully round belly, but still comfortable enough to move and pose with ease. If you're carrying multiples or managing a high-risk pregnancy, booking a bit earlier is often a good idea. Every pregnancy is different, though, so if you want the full breakdown — including what to do if your due date shifts — check out my complete guide: When to Take Maternity Photos.

“We had a wonderful experience with Janelle! She was so easy to work with and was helpful in guiding us on colors, spaces, and placement of people and animals. She took beautiful family photos and got them back to us quickly. We would highly recommend using Janelle for any of your photography needs!”

Maternity sessions offer something newborn and family photos don't always allow for — the chance to be outdoors, in beautiful natural light, showing off the shape and glow of this season. Many of my Cincinnati maternity clients choose an outdoor golden-hour session, set against soft fields, tall grass, or a dreamy park backdrop as the sun begins to set. There's something about that warm, glowing light hitting a bare belly or a flowing gown that feels effortlessly romantic — and it's one of the most requested looks I photograph.
That said, studio sessions have their own quiet magic. A studio setting offers complete control over lighting, backdrop, and styling, with zero weather concerns and a timeless, editorial feel that never goes out of style. It's also a wonderful option if you're short on time, traveling, or simply prefer a more private, controlled environment.
Not sure which fits your vision? I've put together a list of my favorite Cincinnati maternity photo locations to help you decide — or we can talk it through together on your planning call.
