Today, we’re going to talk about where to buy outfits for your newborn photography session for your Dayton Newborn photography session! It can be hard to find the right outfit (or outfits- we love a good outfit change!) for your newborn session. I’m here to help! Here are some tips to make things to more smoothly for you ahead of your newborn photography session!
I also have a style guide for the whole family, but feel free to reach out to me and I will happily help guide you and help you decide on everyone’s outfits!

First and foremost, I always suggest choosing neutrals or light pastel colors. These colors always photograph well and will keep your photos light and airy in keeping with my photography style! Stay away from bold or loud patterns, and dark or neon colors as these will detract from your baby’s sweet face!
I recommend coordinating the rest of the family’s outfits in this same manner! Light, airy and neutral all around will make for lovely photographs where your faces will shine!
As for what kind of clothing to wear, choose whatever you like! Personally, I love a baby in a cute romper! There are a lot of good gender-neutral romper options out there, and this is great for you if you’re waiting until the baby is born to find out the gender! If that’s not you, then rompers are still a great option because they’re simple (but still cute!) and they highlight our favorite newborn baby features like sweet faces, and adorable chubby legs and little tiny toes.
Another factor to keep in mind is comfort! Soft fabrics and comfortable clothes will go a long way toward keeping your baby calm and happy!
Ultimately, the goal here is that you love your photos! Feel free to show some personality in your pictures and choose outfits that feel authentic to you and your family.
Old Navy is one of my absolute favorite places to buy outfits for your newborn photography session! There is always a large variety of newborn rompers for both baby boys and baby girls! They have neutral colors that will fit any family’s color scheme that you decide on. Old Navy is also a great place to find coordinating or matching family outfits for siblings and parents!
Burt’s Bees is another favorite brand of mine for newborn outfits! They’re especially great for newborn sessions during the winter months because they have beautiful neutral colored quilted jumpsuits that are so sweet! Just enough detail to be charming, but neutral enough to let your baby shine.
Colored Organics is another great place to shop! They have the cutest rompers for any season/ color theme you are looking for!
We also can work with swaddles! Some babies are calmer in a swaddle during their photo session, and I’m happy to work with this! There’s nothing like a swaddled little baby! You can find an adorable swaddle blanket almost anywhere, but Target or Carter’s always have super cute options!
At the end of the day, you should love everything about your photos! Planning your newborn’s (and coordinating family) outfits ahead of time will give you peace of mind heading into your newborn photography session, and will give your photos a beautiful, timeless feel so that you can enjoy your photos for years to come! Happy shopping, friends!
