I’m an Oakwood Newborn Photographer, and I’m so excited to share this sweet in-home newborn session with you today! The Kilmarx family reached out to me a while ago to book their newborn session for their sweet babe, Mylah. It was such a pleasure working with them!

This was a lovely session! The Kilmarxes, Justin and Savannah, recently welcomed their first daughter, Mylah, to the world! I love in-home sessions for a lot of reasons, but one of the biggest reasons – personality! – was so evident in this session.

This nursery was so beautiful! There were so many darling details in Mylah’s room! The sweet signs with her name, the quote on the wall, the personalized blanket, the adorable mobile over the crib… I could go on and on! I love when clients embrace their personality and sentimental touches in a session!

Of course, this doesn’t mean that every nursery or room needs to be decorated perfectly. Originally, Savannah and I had talked about renting a studio space for their session due to the amount of natural light in the bedrooms of their home. However, as long as we have one decent sized window in a room, your photos will turn out beautifully! I love a light, bright look to photos, and we can certainly achieve this with a single window. The space here was a little tight for moving around, but you can’t tell in the photos! The size of your room doesn’t matter; I can still capture sweet photos!

A studio space is a great option for my clients who want a super simple, clean look to their photos or if they feel like their homes aren’t ready for photos! Whatever your situation, we will make it work! (Check out one of my sessions done in a studio here!)

Just Relax!

The most important thing to remember for your newborn session is just to relax! Sometimes, clients stress so much about being in front of the camera and wanting their pictures to come out perfectly. But let me tell you that your job is to relax and enjoy your family. My job is to worry about the pictures. I will let you know what I need from you, tell you when to look at the camera, give you prompts to help you relax or to give structure to the session. You hire me for a reason! So just enjoy the moment, go with the flow, and trust me to capture your family’s memories for you.
