I’m so excited to share this Cincinnati newborn photography session with you today. When the King family reached out to celebrate their son Westen’s birth, I couldn’t wait to work with them. There’s something so special about photographing a family in the earliest days of a new baby’s life — it’s a sweet, fleeting window that passes faster than any other stage of parenthood.
As a Cincinnati newborn and family photographer, in-home sessions like Westen’s are one of my favorite ways to capture that stage. There’s nothing quite like documenting a brand-new baby in the actual home they’ll grow up in, surrounded by the small details a family chose just for them.
A Cozy In-Home Setting
We kept this session right in the King family’s own home, moving between the nursery, the master bedroom, and a soft, sunlit corner of the living room. In-home newborn sessions are wonderful for exactly this reason — no travel, no unfamiliar studio, just your baby resting comfortably in the space your family already loves.
Westen was an easy, content newborn for most of the session, drifting in and out of sleep the way most babies do in those first couple of weeks. We captured him swaddled, tucked into his crib, and cradled in his parents’ arms, using the nursery’s soft natural light to keep everything feeling warm and airy.

Capturing a Family’s Real Connection
Logan and Jenna, Westen’s parents, were high school sweethearts who dated for ten years before getting married — and welcomed Westen less than a year later. Watching them with their newborn son was genuinely beautiful. Jenna had that unmistakable new-mother softness in every frame, and Logan couldn’t stop looking at his son with pure amazement, the kind that’s hard to fake and doesn’t need to be.
We captured plenty of quiet, unposed moments — Jenna gently rocking Westen back to sleep, Logan’s hand wrapped around his son’s tiny fingers, the two of them just taking him in together. These are the images that tend to mean the most a few years down the road, long after the exhaustion of those early weeks has faded.
My favorite images from the session are the simplest ones: Westen swaddled and sound asleep, completely unaware of the love surrounding him.
