Hi friends; Let’s talk about questions to ask before you hire a newborn photographer! Choosing a photographer can be a big decision, and it’s one you should make carefully! After all, this is the person responsible for capturing the magical, beautiful moments that you share with your family.
Here are the questions that I recommend you ask of your potential photographer, and my personal answers to each question. I’m passionate about photography and it’s important to me that my clients understand my philosophy and approach to photography.
This is probably the most important question to ask before you hire a newborn photographer! You want to make sure that your vision and your priorities are aligned with your photographer’s!
As for me personally, I am a lifestyle photographer! That means that I meet you and your family where you are! If you have older children or family pets, or even other family members that you want to be a part of the session- they are welcome! My job is to capture the sweet, intimate moments of your life with your family and your newborn baby so that you can remember the magical moments vividly, forever.
As for working with babies, I will follow the newborn cues! We go with the flow but rest assured that we will still get everything done that is needed. Newborn sessions are very laid back; we will do whatever your child needs! If they need a break to nurse or feed, that’s fine! If they need to be swaddled to be calm, perfect! Swaddled babies are adorable babies! At the same time, I make sure that we get all of the photos that we need and want.
Be sure to ask about what is included in your newborn photography package. Some photographers include digital files, while others may charge extra for them. You’ll also want to find out how many edited images you can expect to receive, as well as if there are any additional costs for things like travel or props.
When you work with me, your newborn photo package includes an in-home family newborn session up to 90 minutes. This includes photos with other siblings, mom and baby, dad and baby, and the whole family along with individual photos of your newborn swaddled and more candid lifestyle photos. You will receive a minimum of forty digital images.
It can typically take between two and six weeks for a photographer to edit and deliver your newborn images. But this is an important question to ask your photographer so that you know what to expect!
I will personally send out sneak peeks within 48 hours from the session. Full gallery will be delivered within 2 weeks from the session.
This is important to ask because this helps everyone to know what is going to happen and what to expect, especially if your session includes older siblings! A preparation guide will give you the chance to let everyone involved know exactly what is going to happen. It even gives you tips on how to help your session go smoothly! This guide will also give you tips and info to help you decide what everyone is going to wear for the session!
In case you’re wondering, yes! I have a guide that I send out after each newborn session is booked to help my clients know what to expect. It covers wardrobe choices, lighting and environment, tips for getting babies and kids to cooperate and go with the flow and more! I want you to know what is going to happen and how to prepare.
Since newborns have immature immune systems, their wellbeing and safety is of utmost importance! We have to do whatever we can to keep them safe and healthy. Your photography session should never be the source of stress, especially in regards to the safety of your child.
I will always let each family know if I have been in contact with anyone that is sick or if anyone in my house is sick and we will be able to reschedule at no additional cost.
On the other side of the same coin, let me know if you have concerns or illness on your end! If someone is sick in your home, rescheduling your session is encouraged! Because I work with mainly newborns, I want to make sure that I am healthy and that I am not going to get any other families sick so please reschedule and there is no fee!
It’s important to know what to expect. The manner of delivery, as well as the details of the album itself, will be helpful for you to understand so that you can make the most of your photographs and photography experience.
I send over an online digital gallery for each family to be able to download their images from their session when you are ready.
Word of mouth and referrals are so important! Hearing about other’s experiences with your potential photographer will let you know if it’s a good fit!
As for me, yes! I have many testimonials from past clients that I would love to share with you!! Referrals are a part of business, and I love when my clients are happy and happy to share.
Getting to know your photographer is so important! You want to make sure that it’s a good fit for your family because you should love and cherish these photos. I
