If you’ve been wondering about newborn photography sleeping tips, then you’re in the right place! I want to help you to have the smoothest possible Dayton newborn session, so let’s talk about it.
Your baby is here! You scheduled your newborn photography session. You went shopping for coordinating outfits for your cute babe and the whole family, furry friends included. The day is finally here! And……. your newborn is wide awake. What now?!
No worries, friends!! Your baby is beautiful- we will get beautiful picture of them whether they’re sleeping or bright eyed and bushy-tailed! It’s perfectly normal for a newborn to spend a portion of the session awake.
That being said, there really isn’t much cuter than a sleeping baby during a newborn photography session, so here are my best tried and true newborn photography sleeping tips!
Most of these tips are going to be familiar to you, new parents! They’re probably some of the same things that you do to get your sweet little babe to sleep every day!
Swaddles are magical, folks! I will always recommend a swaddled baby for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s adorable; the quintessential newborn photography outfit. And of course, a swaddled baby is typically a calm (and probably sleeping) baby.
Nurse your newborn or feed them, rock and shush them! Do what comes naturally to you here- You know your baby best, so trust your instincts and sooth that sweet little one! Or break out the pacifier if your baby uses one. (I do recommend using a neutral or aesthetically pleasure pacifier so it’s not too distracting.)
Use a sound machine. White noise will calm your baby and can help block out any distracting or startling sounds. If this is an outdoor session and you have a travel sound machine, this is a great time to put it to use.
Trust your instincts, parents! You are the best parent for your baby and you know them better than anyone else in the world. So do what you do best and sooth that baby to sleep! These soothing moments always make for the most wonderful, intimate photos, too. So much of your time during the newborn phase is spent rocking, cuddling, shushing, singing, and soothing, so it’s only natural to capture these moments on film.
You will love looking back at your photo album and reminiscing on those early newborn days.
Reach out to me here to book your Dayton newborn photography session! I can’t wait to capture the magic of your sweet family!
