Combining the magic of a newborn baby with the festive joy of Christmas made for some truly gorgeous family photos. There’s nothing quite like the warmth of holiday lights layered into a newborn session — what a beautiful gift to receive during the holidays, on top of the ultimate gift of a new baby.
The Magic of an In-Home Newborn Session
In-home sessions are a personal favorite of mine, and if you’ve followed my work for a while, you already know how much I advocate for them. For this particular session, everything came together seamlessly in the comfort of this sweet family’s own space. The holiday decorations were up, the tree lights were twinkling, and the entire house felt cozy and full of anticipation.
Mom and Dad were finally holding their sweet, surprise bundle of joy. Meanwhile, the two older siblings, Eloise and Sam, loved every second of having a new tiny family member to dote on. Eloise and Sam already share a deep bond with each other, and it was beautiful to watch that same love instantly extend to their new baby sister. Everyone was completely comfortable, relaxed, and at ease in their own element — which is exactly the goal of an in-home infant photography session.

Capturing the Fleeting Details
During our time together, we used several areas of the home to get a variety of backdrops: the beautifully curated nursery, the master bedroom, and the living room, where the Christmas decorations were on full display.
The master bedroom photos turned out especially adorable, particularly the individual newborn swaddle portraits. This was this sweet little one’s chance to shine on her own — completely content and happy wrapped up snug in her swaddle, or nestled in her mother’s arms. There’s really nothing quite like a newborn’s instinctual comfort with their mother, and it shows in every frame.
We also captured timeless details throughout the family’s home, especially the thoughtful touches in the nursery — tiny outfits, a full head of gorgeous newborn hair, the small things that feel insignificant in the moment but matter most later on. Years from now, when Eloise and Sam are grown, these images will bring back the exact feeling of this sweet season in a way that’s hard to put into words.
That’s genuinely the best part of my job as a Cincinnati family newborn photographer: capturing the authentic essence of your family exactly as it exists right now, so you can hold onto it forever.

Sibling relationships in the first weeks of a new baby’s life shift quickly. The American Academy of Pediatrics notes that older siblings often go through a real adjustment period when a new baby arrives, and that early, gentle bonding moments — like Eloise and Sam doting over their new sister — play an important role in how that relationship develops over time. Capturing those first interactions on camera preserves something that changes fast and rarely repeats itself in quite the same way.
The same is true of a newborn’s own features. The CDC’s guidance on infant development is a good reminder of just how quickly a baby’s face, expressions, and even head of hair can shift within the first couple of months — which is exactly why I encourage families not to let these early images sit forgotten on a phone.
