I’m a Hyde Park Newborn Photographer, and I recently had the pleasure of working with this sweet family that just welcomed their newborn baby girl, Helen! This was such a calm and delightful session. And that calm is one of the many reasons why I love in-home newborn sessions!
The world can be overstimulating for a new baby, so limiting distractions can be so helpful! By the time I work with newborns, they’ve typically grown acclimated to their caretakers and their surroundings at home. So, during an in-home session, they’re calm! They’re cozy and comfy in Mom or Dad’s arms, or they’re in their nursery or parents’ room. The whole family is at ease during these sessions.
Helen was so calm, and just went with the flow! We always follow baby’s schedule and take breaks whenever we need to in order to keep baby happy.
And of course, the practicality of being in one’s own home can’t be matched. Whatever you need is right at your fingertips. No need to stuff your diaper bag full of everything you “might” need, only to realize you’ve forgotten something. If baby needs to take a break to nurse or eat, it’s easy to do so!
And diaper changes (or outfit changes!) are no problem. Miss Helen had a couple of outfit changes, which I’m always a fan of. Do you see the bow on baby Helen’s head?! Too adorable. I absolutely love these little touches in a newborn session. Particular details matter, and the outfit changes add variety to your photos. Of course, I always like to take some simple photos without all the details so that your sweet baby can shine all on their own!
This particular home was fantastic and had lots of natural light, which I love to have! Of course, this isn’t a necessity but it’s sure a plus in my book! Helen’s session was done during the Christmas season, so we made sure to incorporate some seasonal aspects into the session. We also wanted to incorporate some photos of the staircase in this family’s home.
One of the first things that I do when I walk into each client’s home is ask them where the nursery and master bedroom is so that I can get set up. I also ask if there is any spot in their house that they would like to do some photos! Helen came a couple of weeks early, so they didn’t have the nursery ready yet, but they did say how much they love their home’s staircase, and they would love it if we could do some photos here! So, I know we had to use it.
And that, my friends, is the beauty of in-home sessions. If there is some detail, some outfit, or a specific room in your house that is special to you, we will incorporate it into your session! When you look back at these photos in the future, all of these special details will bring you right back to the moment. I hope that you enjoy these photos, and if you want to see another in-home session, you can find it here.
I would love to capture your family’s most special moments, right down to the sweetest details. Reach out to me here to get started. I can’t wait to work with you!
Talk soon, Janelle
